Sanatayn Programme — A Structured 2-Year Foundation in Islamic Sciences
The Sanatayn is the two-year foundational stage of the full Alimiyyah programme at Darul Yasin. A structured introduction to Arabic, Fiqh, Hadith, Aqidah, Seerah and Tafsir — taught by qualified scholars, available online across the UK and in-person in Leeds. Designed for busy adults starting from scratch.
"Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim." — The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ | Ibn Majah
Two years that build the foundation for a lifetime of Islamic knowledge
The Sanatayn — meaning "two years" in Arabic — is the foundational stage of the traditional Alimiyyah course. It is a structured programme designed to take a complete beginner through the essential building blocks of Islamic sciences: Arabic language, Fiqh, Hadith, Aqidah, Seerah and Tafsir.
At Darul Yasin, the Sanatayn is delivered by qualified Alim and Alimah scholars in clear, accessible English. Sisters benefit from a dedicated Alimah course for sisters, taught in a fully sisters-only environment by our qualified female scholars — available both in-person in Leeds and online UK-wide. Whether you attend in person in Leeds or join live online from anywhere in the UK, you receive the same structured teaching and personal progress tracking.
This is not a casual course. It is a genuine two-year commitment — but one designed specifically for working adults and busy families. Evenings, weekends, and a manageable weekly schedule make it possible for almost anyone to complete.
- Derived from the traditional Dars-e-Nizami curriculum — the classical framework of Islamic scholarship
- No prior Arabic or Islamic studies knowledge required
- Taught in English by qualified UK scholars
- Pathway to full Alimiyyah — continue beyond Year 2 if desired
Qualified Alim & Alimah Scholars
Every class is delivered by a scholar with a recognised Alimiyyah qualification. UK-based, English-speaking, and experienced at guiding complete beginners to confident learners.
Structured Curriculum
A clear, year-by-year programme. No randomness, no gaps. You know exactly what you are learning and where you are heading — from Week 1 to Year 2.
Online & In-Person
Live online sessions via Zoom or in-person classes in Beeston, Leeds. Same scholars, same curriculum, same progress tracking — wherever you are in the UK.
Gateway to Full Alimiyyah
Sanatayn is the first two years of the full Alimiyyah programme. Students who wish to continue progress naturally into Years 3 and beyond.
Two years of structured, progressive learning
Each year builds on the last. Year 1 lays the foundations in Arabic and core Islamic sciences. Year 2 develops those foundations into real proficiency and deeper study. The Sanatayn follows the traditional Dars-e-Nizami framework — the classical curriculum of Islamic scholarship — adapted for English-speaking students in the UK, with classical texts taught alongside modern understanding.
Building the Base
Year 1 begins from the very beginning. Arabic alphabet, grammar, and essential Islamic knowledge — all taught from scratch. No prior experience assumed or required.
- Noorani Qa'idah & Qur'an Recitation
- Basic Arabic Language (Durūs al-Lughah)
- Arabic Grammar — Nahw (Introductory)
- Arabic Morphology — Sarf (Introductory)
- Introduction to Hadith
- Essential Du'ās & Supplications
- Aqidah (Foundations of Belief)
- Seerah (Life of the Prophet ﷺ)
Deepening the Knowledge
Year 2 builds directly on Year 1, developing Arabic proficiency and introducing more advanced Islamic texts across Fiqh, Tafsir, Hadith and Islamic history.
- Intermediate Arabic (Durūs al-Lughah Vol. 2)
- Arabic Morphology — Sarf (Intermediate)
- Qasas an-Nabiyyīn (Stories of the Prophets)
- Tafsir — Introduction to Qur'anic Commentary
- Fiqh — Practical Islamic Rulings
- Hadith Studies (Zad at-Talibin)
- Islamic History
- Tazkiyah (Spiritual Development)
By the end of Sanatayn, students can:
A complete grounding in the Islamic sciences
The Sanatayn covers all seven core disciplines of the traditional Alimiyyah curriculum, introduced and developed progressively across two years.
Arabic Language
The essential key to Islamic texts. Built from the alphabet up, progressing through grammar (Nahw) and morphology (Sarf).
Fiqh (Islamic Law)
Practical rulings governing worship, daily life and Islamic practice. Understanding what is required and why.
Hadith Studies
The sayings and traditions of the Prophet ﷺ — their meanings, contexts, and application in everyday Muslim life.
Tafsir
Qur'anic commentary and interpretation. Understanding the words of Allah in their proper context and meaning.
Aqidah (Theology)
Core Islamic beliefs and doctrine. A firm, reasoned foundation in what Muslims believe — the bedrock of faith.
Seerah
The biography and life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ — a source of inspiration, guidance, and character formation.
Tazkiyah
Spiritual development and purification of the heart. Connecting knowledge to practice and character.
Qur'an Recitation
Correct recitation with Tajweed rules. Proper pronunciation and the ability to read as the Qur'an was revealed.
Designed for real people with real commitments
The Sanatayn programme at Darul Yasin is built for adults who want authentic, structured Islamic knowledge — but who also have jobs, families, and the demands of everyday life in the UK. It functions as a part-time Alim course online and in-person, specifically structured so that working professionals and students can gain serious Islamic scholarship without leaving their careers.
You do not need prior Arabic knowledge. You do not need a religious background or previous Islamic education. You simply need the intention to learn and the commitment to show up consistently.
Many of our students are complete beginners who felt they had left it too late. They hadn't. Sisters who have completed our Ladies Islamic Classes also progress naturally into Sanatayn as the next step.
- No prior Arabic or Islamic studies experience required
- Open to brothers and sisters aged 16 and above
- Flexible enough for full-time workers and parents — study part-time around your life
- Sisters can progress directly from Ladies Islamic Classes
- Online option for students anywhere in the UK — live, not recorded
Working Professionals
Evening and weekend classes are structured around your working week. Consistent and manageable — not intensive bursts that burn out within months.
Parents & Carers
The programme is designed to fit around family responsibilities. Many current students are parents who study consistently around school runs and family life.
Complete Beginners
We start from the very beginning — Arabic alphabet, basic concepts, essential knowledge. If you have never studied before, this programme is built for you.
Those Seeking Structure
For Muslims with some basic Islamic knowledge who want to go deeper — moving beyond random lectures into structured, scholarly learning with a clear path forward.
Based outside Leeds? You can study from anywhere in the UK
The Sanatayn is available as a fully live online programme via Zoom. Students in Manchester, Birmingham, London, Sheffield and Nottingham — and across the UK — study with us every week without ever visiting Leeds. For the full list of cities and areas we serve, see our Alimiyyah Programme page.
This is not a recorded course or a video library. Every session is live and interactive. Your teacher knows your name, tracks your progress, corrects your pronunciation, and answers your questions in real time — exactly as they would in a classroom.
Online students follow the same curriculum, sit the same assessments, and receive the same certificate as in-person students. The only difference is where you are sitting.
- Live sessions via Zoom — not pre-recorded
- Same scholars, same curriculum, same certificate
- Your teacher knows you and tracks your progress personally
- Students currently enrolled from across England, Scotland and Wales
- All you need is a device, an internet connection, and the intention to learn
Live, Not Recorded
Every class is a real-time session. Ask questions, get corrections, and engage directly with your teacher and fellow students — just as you would in person.
Students Across the UK
We have students from Manchester, Birmingham, London, Bradford, Leicester and beyond. Wherever you are in the UK, you can join.
Personal Progress Tracking
Your teacher monitors your development individually. Online students are not left to study alone — you are part of a class with real accountability.
No Special Equipment Needed
A phone, tablet, or laptop and a reliable internet connection is all you need. We will walk you through setup before your first session.
From Leeds to your living room
As a trusted Leeds-based madrasa, Darul Yasin brings local classroom quality directly to your home. Whether you are in Beeston, Harehills or anywhere in the UK, you receive the same qualified scholars, the same Dars-e-Nizami curriculum, and the same personal progress tracking as our in-person students. Can't find a trusted local madrasa near you? Our Alimiyyah programme serves students from Birmingham, Manchester, London, Sheffield, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Norwich, Milton Keynes and beyond.
What two years of structured study means for you
The Sanatayn is not just academic — it changes how you engage with your deen, your family, and your own life in a lasting and practical way.
A Foundation in Arabic
By the end of Year 2, students have the Arabic tools to begin reading classical Islamic texts. You will understand the Qur'an and Hadith with new depth and directness.
Structured Islamic Knowledge
A clear grounding across all seven core Islamic sciences — not random facts or isolated lessons, but a connected, logical understanding of the deen.
Confidence in Practice
Students consistently report transformed confidence in their Fiqh — knowing how to pray, fast, and practise Islam correctly, with the reasoning behind each ruling.
A Gateway to Full Alimiyyah
Sanatayn is the first two years of the full Alimiyyah programme. Students who wish to continue progress directly into Years 3 and 4 without starting over.
Spiritual Development
Knowledge combined with Tazkiyah means your learning is connected to your character. Students develop not just as learners but as better Muslims and better people.
A Certificate of Achievement
Students receive a certificate upon completion of the programme — a recognised milestone in your Islamic learning journey at Darul Yasin.
