Islamic Inheritance Summary
Quranic Foundation: “Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females.” (Qur’an 4:11)
Fixed Shares (Fard):
- Husband: 1/2 (no children) or 1/4 (with children)
- Wife: 1/4 (no children) or 1/8 (with children)
- Father: 1/6 (with children) or residue (no child)
- Mother: 1/3 (no children/siblings) or 1/6 (with children)
- Daughter(s) w/o son: 1/2 (one) or 2/3 (two or more)
- With sons present: children share the residue with son = 2 parts, daughter = 1 part
Hadith: “Give the prescribed shares to those entitled to them; whatever remains goes to the nearest male heir.” (Bukhari)
